Pro’s work was not limited to the outback and mining (both underground and above) but also portrayed life in other circles, including cityscapes, beach scenes and studies of flowers and insects. Throughout his career, Pro Hart held nineteen international exhibitions, illustrated fourteen books and in 1982 received an Honorary Life Membership to the Society International Artistique for his outstanding artistic achievement, an honour that is only granted to one individual per continent. Aquatint is an etching process in which Pro Hart was concerned with tone rather than line.  For this technique, a plate is covered with particles of acid-resistant material such as resin and heated to make the particles stick.  The treated plate is then placed in an acid bath, which bites into the copper that is exposed between grains of resin, yielding a composition marked by texture and tone. This is the last etching of this  “Dragonfly” left in stock.  The edition number is 40/100. In nearly all of the styles and subjects that David paints, there are subtle elements of his father’s (Pro Hart) secret techniques. David has been left with an incredible responsibility to his heritage, and he feels that it’s up to him now to keep these styles alive. More than that, he sees his challenge is to take his father’s secret techniques to new heights and to push through the boundaries of experimentation and growth as he adapts and integrates them into his own style. David’s Dragonfly and Ants series are quite different to the images painted by his father. David has introduced mixed mediums to his work, and in this particular painting he has used charcoal as his medium. Both the Dragonfly and Ant series, and the continual evolution of style and technique used to create them, insures these subjects will remain among the most identifiable and iconic series of David’s body of work. • John Simpson Kirkpatrick was born in Britain but later moved to Australia. In August 1914 he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force, serving at Gallipoli the following year as Private John Simpson in the 3rd Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps. He served from the time of the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April until he was killed in action on 19 May. Simpson became famous for his work as a stretcher-bearer. Using one of the donkeys brought in for carrying water, he transported wounded men day and night from the fighting in Monash Valley to the beach on Anzac Cove. He did so, according to Charles Bean, through "deadly sniping down the valley and the most furious shrapnel fire". He was killed by machine-gun fire while carrying two wounded men and was buried on the beach at Hell Spit This artwork is on display in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel, Surfers Paradise.  It was actually painted back in 2009 and has been in David's private collection since then and so is a very special piece.
