  • The late Pro Hart was one of Australia’s most iconic and polarising artists, his unique landscapes capturing the spirit of the outback with an unrivalled authenticity.  His works are distinguished by their almost semi-primitive style and their use of bold, vibrant colours true to the rich Australian landscapes they depict. Pro’s work was not limited to the outback and mining (both underground and above) but also portrayed life in other circles, including cityscapes, beach scenes and studies of flowers and insects. Throughout his career, Pro Hart held nineteen international exhibitions, illustrated fourteen books and in 1982 received an Honorary Life Membership to the Society International Artistique for his outstanding artistic achievement, an honour that is only granted to one individual per continent. • St. Patrick’s Day Races is held in the Australian Outback, Pro’s hometown of Broken Hill. Whole communities from far and wide gather together for the event of the year. Here in "The Big Race", with a few succinct brushstrokes, Pro masterly depicts the excitement of outback racing, bringing to life the triumph and tragedy of the theatre of the race meeting and the accompanying challenges of racing on a rural dirt track.  Awash with figures, horses, dogs, drink tents and grandstands full of people, his keen observation of life in and around his city of Broken Hill renders a pictorial narrative full of colour and warmth with a charming sense of laconic humour.

There is an almost surreal feeling – the trees are intertwined and gnarled with age, clumps of reeds along the edge providing breeding grounds for fish.

  • David finds painting beach scenes and seascapes to be among his most enjoyable and relaxing forms of expression. Living and working alongside some of Australia’s most famous beaches, has been a driving force behind his inspiration. His images of Australian beach life are portrayed in a very impressionistic style. Beginning with a hand sketch onto canvas, he then completes his scene in acrylic paint. After setting the work aside to dry for a day or two, he then begins to paint layer upon layer of luxurious oil colours, lavishly and thickly applied by pallet knife, while at the same time, allowing areas of the original under work to show through. Each image seeks to draw the viewer’s attention to an expansive depth; random knife strokes, scratches and seeming insignificant blobs of paint suddenly become objects and people who appear to be engaged in all manner of activities. David’s beach scenes are both romantic and realistic observations of life at the beach. Located at the Brisbane studio (Underwood).  Please call 0411 154 334 to make a time for a private viewing. • Inspired by Australian wild flowers, David’s Flower series has become a loving evolution over many years. As he freely experiments with colour and new methods of application, his flower images have taken on ever-evolving textures. David experiments with a wide variety of painting implements, like large broad paint brushes, paint tubes drilled with holes, pallet knives and house hold scrubbing brushes. These paintings are not your typical still-lives either; being thickly laden with paint that seems to struggle to hold itself to the canvas, allows his images to create a sense of energy and movement that’s almost hypnotic, yet, at the same time, gives the viewer a sense of tranquilly and stimulation. THIS ARTWORK IS ON DISPLAY IN THE LOBBY OF THE HILTON HOTEL, SURFERS PARADISE.
